Not to brag, but I have beautiful family members! 🙂 I needed a few couples to model for me for my style guide, so I absolutely had to ask my niece Kelly and her boyfriend Ryan. Kelly had modeled for me in August as a bride – and to be honest I kind of wanted to cry when I saw her in a wedding gown!! You can check out that amazing shoot at Allerton Park here on the blog too!
We picked the Sunday after their finals were done. Kelly and I went and grabbed some lunch then went to her apartment to get her hair done. This was the very first time I had met Ryan. Now normally, as a photographer, I would be super relaxed and super nice so that my client or model can feel relaxed and ready for pictures. But instead I showed him my inner Stinson (maiden name). He walked in, I introduced myself, “Hello Ryan, nice to meet you, I’m Amy. Couple things you should know about me. I’ve been told by many that I am like a human lie detector and I have also been trained to take down men three times your size. With that in mind, what are your intentions toward my niece?” Kelly stood by me trying not to laugh, and poor Ryan looked like a deer in headlights!! So I quickly let him know I was just messing with him. 🙂 By the way, both of those things are absolutely true. It made me really good at my previous job before wedding photography!
I had an idea for Kelly’s hair, so while we did her hair and makeup, Ryan being the absolute sweetheart that he is, offered to be helping in any way he could. He ended up going to buy hairspray for the first time. 🙂 We headed over to Miller Park and started the shoot.
As a photographer, I loved photographing these two! As an aunt… I had a moment (or seven) of being so overwhelmed seeing my niece beaming and so happy. It was like seeing a different part of her just come to life. And I immediately called my sister as I left Kelly’s apartment to say how much I like Ryan and how good he is for Kelly!! But seriously, Ryan… I will go Liam Neeson on you if you hurt her. 😉
